Art Demo and Reception at Artevo Gallery

I am pleased to announce that I will be providing a solo demonstration at Artevo Gallery in downtown Victoria on Saturday, January 24 2009 from 2-4 pm. A reception will follow from 4-7 pm.

Artevo Gallery is one of Victoria's newest contemporary art galleries, and I am thrilled to be afforded the opportunity to demonstrate my painting process, to answer questions, and to meet with people who are interested in local artists and artwork!

Artevo Gallery is located at 616 Fort Street, in the Bay Centre block (adjacent from the main Hudson's Bay outdoor entrance). I look forward to seeing you and your guests at the event!

Looking Ahead to 2009

Happy New Year! I hope everybody had a warm and restful holiday season and that 2009 has started off well!

After a busy month of completing numerous holiday commissions, I am starting to plan the year ahead and to narrow my infinite sources of inspiration down to several basic categories-- no easy task! My studio is jam-packed with drawings and sketches that are close to becoming paintings, and my photo albums from my travels boast a sea of Post-It flags, each marking a building or nature scene that begs to be painted! :)

After careful consideration, I have decided to concentrate my artistic efforts on the following series for the upcoming year:

1. Trees

2. Czech Republic scenes

3. Lighthouses

Of course, I will still gladly accept commissions for any sort of custom painting throughout the year, but my own series of paintings will be driven by these themes in 2009 (if everything goes according to plan!).

In the meantime, please enjoy some photos of a few of the commissions that were completed as gifts for the holidays. All the best for 2009!

Now On Display in Campbell River

Ten limited edition giclées of mine are now on display in the village at Willow Point in Campbell River, B.C.! I am pleased to announce that the Serious Coffee at Willow Point will be hosting my artwork for the next 2-3 months.

Paintings can take on a whole new look and feeling, depending on where they are featured or showcased. Although my paintings work well on most shades of walls or backgrounds (white, neutral-tones, and coloured walls), I have always felt personally that they looked the best on brightly and richly coloured walls.

For the first time, my artwork is being displayed on bright orange walls at the Serious Coffee in Campbell River, and I am tremendously pleased with the way the oranges, yellows, and peach colours in the pieces pop out against that shade of backdrop! It is incredible to see how different features of each painting get highlighted on different colours of walls.

If you live in Campbell River or happen to be visiting central Vancouver Island (it is stunning in autumn!), please stop by the Serious Coffee and check out the new display!

Kamennie Schodki, the green-framed painting on the far right, looks absolutely amazing on those bright orange walls!
